Eligibility

Who can call us.

Anyone over 18 in the U.S. can call us for free information. We don't have eligibility gates, income tests, or qualification forms. The federal and state programs we refer you to have their own rules. Here's a quick reference so you know what to expect.

  • Business or commercial assistance
  • International applicants (U.S. only)
  • Cash advances or loans
  • Bail / criminal defense funding
  • Immigration legal services (we refer to legal aid, not provide it)

Federal program eligibility

The programs we refer to. Each has its own income limits, residency requirements, and documentation rules — here's the rough version. A team members know your state's specifics.

SNAP (food assistance)

Rule of thumb: Generally household income at or below 130% of the federal poverty line.

Rules vary by state. Some states (CA, NY, etc.) have higher thresholds. Asset tests in some states.

LIHEAP (energy bill help)

Rule of thumb: Income at or below 150% of federal poverty level (varies by state — some up to 200%).

Funded annually; many states have winter/summer windows where you must apply.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

Rule of thumb: Income at or below 50% of area median income (AMI) for your county.

Most counties have multi-year waitlists. Some lottery, some first-come-first-served.

Medicaid

Rule of thumb: Income limits vary widely by state and household type. Roughly 138% of FPL in expansion states.

Some states (TX, FL, MS, etc.) have stricter rules. CHIP covers kids with higher household incomes.

WIC (women, infants, children)

Rule of thumb: Pregnant women, new mothers, and kids under 5 in households at or below 185% of FPL.

Receiving SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid automatically qualifies you.

Pell Grants (college aid)

Rule of thumb: Determined by FAFSA. No income cap, but typically families with household income under ~$60K qualify for max award.

Maximum award for 2024–2025 is $7,395.
